Phase 1

Define requirements

Start by specifying what your aircraft needs to do: payload, range, speed, runway length, and regulations.

Engineering background

Starting from mission needs

Every successful aircraft design starts with a clear mission. Before touching any calculator, answer: How many passengers/payload? How far? How fast? From what runways? Under which regulations (Part 23, Part 25, LSA, experimental)?

These requirements drive every design decision downstream. A short-field bush plane needs a totally different wing than a cross-country cruiser.
